You Who Came From The Stars: Amusing Clip Findings – Video Variety

With the cornucopia of rom-com dramas* airing it may be easy to forget the long and winding drought dramaland had without the fluffy rom com fare that’s become a touchstone to Korean television.  I don’t think I could pin point why we had more shows with serial killers instead of kisses, but no matter, at least I’m in love with this most current slate.

*Seriously, at last count we have Trot Lovers, Marriage Not Dating, Fated to Love You, It’s Okay that’s Love, and High School King of Savvy.  Of those, to the best of my knowledge only one, has received mixed to negative reviews (Trot).  4/5 well received rom-coms running at the same time?!? I don’t know whether to feel greedy, or sad that these shows couldn’t have possibly been spaced out a wee bit better so that I would actually have time to watch all of them.

Also, the wait for rom-comy goodness wasn’t quite as punishing when the genre went out (or on hiatus) on a high note such as My Love From the Stars (MLFTS) which captured millions of eyeballs all over the world due to it’s intermingling of comedy, supernatural, drama, and romance. (and let’s get real JJH putting on one of the great comedic performances in a drama ever.)

So thought I would share some amusing MLFTS adjacent clips, stemming from parodies to PPL’s to plenty of KSH JJH adorableness. Enjoy!

As many things as this show did right, these header/poster pics were not one of them. Is this a 1990’s soap opera? A funeral? or a rom com featuring a 400 year old alien? Better luck next time promo department

SNL Korea: Futbol Video Game Edition – Video Variety

My last World Cup adjacent post I swear!

First off congrats Germany for an excellent tourney.  I may not usually root for tall teams, but y’all were clearly the best team this year, thus you and your beautiful goalkeeper attained a much deserved championship.

Now onto more important topics, like this weeks video.  I have discussed my fondness for the SNL: Korea GTA series in the pastbut thought this would be a nice bookend to to conclude all the global soccer shenanigans.

The sketch starts off a little slow but builds to a satisfying, hilarious conclusion, which includes cameos, poking fun at football guffaws, and the wrath of Korean mothers…

Greatest. Mashup. Everrrrr. (and the new game inspired by it!)

That was fan-freaking-hilariously-delicious! this mash up uses her love interests Chep! and Dokko Jin from Pasta and Greatest Love respectively, and without giving anything away things take a bromantic turn in the ladder half of the vid.

So now I just  really want to combine all her TV love interests in some sort of epic movie or reality show death match. Imagine… the Coffee Prince lads with the Something Happened in Bali boys, add a Dokko Jin, and just a pinch of Thank You‘s Jang Hyuk for good measure and you’ve got…. Well dunno exactly but it sure sounds like a smexy good time! In fact…

Video Variety – SNL Korea and GTA (no GTA knowledge required!)

As an SNL junkie for some years in high school and college, imagine my enthusiasm upon discovering a Korean offshoot. Like all sketch shows, its very hit and miss, and finding subbed sketches can prove difficult. Within the sketches I have seen I will occasionally post the ones I enjoyed. The GTA series they have put out (at least 10 sketches I could find) is a high watermark for the show. Though I haven’t really played video games since days of Mario Kart and The Sims, what little knowledge I know of gaming and its culture made this a treat. Come for his “character” making character movement in games into an art form, stay for the Gaksital cameo!
