SNL Korea: Futbol Video Game Edition – Video Variety

My last World Cup adjacent post I swear!

First off congrats Germany for an excellent tourney.  I may not usually root for tall teams, but y’all were clearly the best team this year, thus you and your beautiful goalkeeper attained a much deserved championship.

Now onto more important topics, like this weeks video.  I have discussed my fondness for the SNL: Korea GTA series in the pastbut thought this would be a nice bookend to to conclude all the global soccer shenanigans.

The sketch starts off a little slow but builds to a satisfying, hilarious conclusion, which includes cameos, poking fun at football guffaws, and the wrath of Korean mothers…

Beautiful Men for a Beautiful Game part 2: Clear Eyes, Hot Bods, Can’t Lose. (Updated)

To continue my non television related hokum, I will talk a little more about men in shorts.. (Spoiler Alert) They. Are. Great.

I mean soccer brings “da feelz” out of people/athletes in ways that are quite rare in our society.  Perhaps because the sport seems operatic on some level.  The intermingling of power and finesse, players moving harmoniously, all while spectators take it all in, holding our breath for the exciting climax…  Best opera ever right? Another reason for its greatness can be summed up in the oddly appropriate adage “It’s not over till the fat lady sings”.  Boy has that been the case this cup.  But I’m not writing to post about match specifics (though I still mourn the loss of Mexico, Nigeria, and the US’s tough exits), Instead, I will showcase the moments, emotions, (and yes hotness) through it’s purest form —  The slightly doctored photograph.

Sexy Personified – Hottest Athletes During the World Cup. Part 1

So this may post may go against the grain of my blog’s thesis or whatever, but my life motto is “pretty things always welcome”, so hopefully this works..Because these men are certainly workin’ it.

But that was so 2010.  4 years later we’re in the land of Portuguese, beaches, and Bossa Nova. Since watching, I’ve now decided Brazil is a premium place to host the World Cup.  Why you ask? Well between the on-going rain and crazy humidity, the players look like they are entering a wet t-shirt contest 10 minutes into the game.  And it is a glorious site to behold.  Any detractors to global warming needn’t look further than the superstars gathered in Brazil to see these men raise the collective temperature by leaving myself and others plenty hot and bothered.  Now some may say, “You’re totally objectifying men with this.” to which I say, “About darn time.”  People will judge others superficially till the end of days, and no matter how troubling that statement is, might as well try to level the playing field through the male body/booty shot.* Enough with the small talk, let’s get down to sexiness! I’m sure I’m leaving many wonders in human form on the bench, but these were just my personal favorites whom I’d love to take home… to mom and dad of course (but that’s after other athletic activities take place 😉 Note: Should update this till the end of the tournament, so stay tuned. (Update. Never mind. Post filled with group stage winners will be forthcoming.)

*In that sense Korean television might have already reached the promise land of equal opportunity offenders of visual exploitation. So yay broody male shower scenes for gender equality!

Top 5 – Instances of Soccer being used in K dramas

This edition of top 5 is taking its cue from the beautiful game, which will be having a moment in this upcoming little known tournament sponsored by the Football Is Forever Always group.  So in order to spread the word, this post will be dedicated to the times when futbol, putbol, chuggu, voetbal, bola sepak, and yes even soccer became apart of K-dramaland.  Apologies to those who watch K-dramas to avoid watching the thirteenth repeat of a Bundesliga match highlight reel, but unlike 95% of Americans, I can’t get enough, so anytime I can share soccer and its culture I will partake! In fact, during a study abroad trip around Europe several years ago, my go-to small talk “in” was bringing up 2010 cup in South Africa, which did become a problem upon reaching the Netherlands and talking to the Dutch…

6b788__71403042_dutch_gettyBesides the fact Europeans were shocked an American girl wanted to discuss the unfairness of Ghana’s heart wrenching loss to Uruguay (I’ll never forgive you Luis Suarez), it proved a great ice breaker.  Which is also why if I suddenly dovetail into some soccer related story that snowballs into the last match of my high school career, just ignore.  Sometimes you never know when soccer team nostalgia pangs will hit, and when they do, I’ll just remind myself of the good ole days..
